Park Attractions

Lowland tropical rainforest bordering Braulio Carrillo National Park, between the Sarapiqui and Puerto Viejo Rivers. The Organization for Tropical Studies administers a Biological Station in this protected zone. There is a marked trail system and scientific study possibilities for visitors.

Driving Directions

From San Jose, take the Guapiles highway through Braulio Carrillo. Approximately 5 miles after you cross the Sucio River, turn left following the sign to Puerto Viejo. About 2 miles before you reach Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, you will find the entrance to the station.

Park Facilities and Hours

Cafeteria and dormitory lodging are available, as well as a marked trail system and bilingual guides.

Project ALAS now operates a modern laboratory faciltiy for the study of biological diversity at La Selva.
