The Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Reserve protects
tropical forest area in the highlands surrounding San Ramon, in the Tilaran Mountains. The Biological
Station is under the direction of the Occidente Campus of the University
of Costa Rica.

From the city of San Ramon it is about two hours by car to reach the station
in the mountains of the Cordillera de Tilaran, northwest of San Ramon. The
station is placed by the river site of Rio San Lorencito at about 1000m over
sea level. Alberto Brenes can shelter up to 40 persons and is equipped with
several bathrooms, a kitchen, single and six person bedrooms, a big laboratory
room and a dry room. Electricity (110 V) is provided by a water turbine.
